Today I went on a first date for coffee with a woman I’ve been talking to for a while. Things were going very smoothly and the chemistry was unlike any I’d had with someone in quite some time. I happen to work at Planned Parenthood and she mentioned in conversation that she actually had an abortion in the past. I’m a social worker, so I don’t have delicate ears, but it caught me off guard that she would tell me that on the first date. I have never personally known someone who has gone through with an abortion so it made me feel strangely. I see a potential relationship, but I’m worried I shouldn’t have heard that so soon.
