I’ve loved you. For four long years, you’ve been the only one that could really puncture my heart. And I know at one time, you loved me too. You are at basic now, and I haven’t heard a thing from you. Not that I blame you, it was never your fault. I was angry, I pushed you away when you needed my support. I know you used to say, just talking to me made your day. But the more I think about it, the more I realize you don’t need me. You need someone who is going to support you no matter what, and I wasn’t there. I’ve decided not to write a letter, and I know you are graduating soon. As much as I want to show you I support you, I’m being selfish. I can’t go, because I’m afraid the face you will make will be cold. I’m afraid that look of love in your eyes will be gone. I’m afraid of you being gone. So I’m going to let you be. And do what I should have done so long ago, something to release you. As much as I love you, and will always love only you, I want you to be happy, and find someone that won’t let you be hurt, ever. I don’t deserve to be your Army Girlfriend. I don’t deserve to be anything to you. And for that reason, and that reason only, you won’t hear from me again. I wish you luck, I wish you love, and I want you to remember how much I’ve always loved you. It’s possible, whether or not you realize it, for someone to love you. As good as you’ve always been, you’ll find someone in no time. Someone on your level, someone for the rest of your life. I’ve been in love with you since day one, Mikey, and that will never change. Remember that, my hero in combat boots.
