This is my biggest secret. When I was in 4th, I made an online friend. I don’t remember how it happened but we started emailing every day. We talked for two years and he always asked for details I knew I shouldn’t give to strangers, nonetheless an adult man. We became really close and I shared all my problems with him. I was being bullied really bad because I started my first period in lightly colored shorts in front of the whole class, my parents were divorcing, I experienced grief for a loved one for the first time, it was just not a happy time. He was there for me so I started to trust him. I told him my full name and gave him a picture of me. Suddenly, he knew things I didn’t think I told him like what state I lived in. I got really scared but knew I messed up so didn’t tell anyone because I knew I’d be in trouble (my mom wasn’t quite right at that time and always threatened to have me institutionalizatized for showing emotions). I stopped replying to him so he started sending me emails, begging me to talk to him because he loves me and wants to marry me. He offered to take me to his country so I could be away from the bullies and my family. I continued to ignore him. A few months later, I started getting emails from an old friend of mine who moved away. I was happy to hear from her so I gave her my number. We texted a lot and I didnt hide details from her. I invited her to my soccer game but she never showed up. But someone I recognized showed up. It was him, I could tell from the pictures he sent me. I didn’t know how the hell it happened at the time but I think he saw her on my MySpace. He just watched my game without making a scene but, obviously, I was freaking out on the inside. I told my dad I was sick and he took me home. A week later, I saw him again while walking home alone. He pulled over next to me and started talking to me like it was no big deal. He acted very nice but could tell I was horrified. We had a short talk that ended with him asking if I loved him. I said no and apologized. He asked if I never wanted to see him again. I said yes. He got sad and told me I was a good girl so I should hurry home. I hurried home just about as fast as I could. I haven’t heard from him since but, looking back, I don’t know what could have happened to me. I never told anyone. If I have a kid, I’m going to monitor their internet use like crazy.
