I tried to help a former co worker who had lost his job at our company for drinking on the job. He was caught red handed with a bottle in his trashcan. Loaded on the job. They tried to help him but he went from bad to worse.

He was living in the same apartment building as me unfortunantly and when he came to me feeling sorry for himself I personally tried to help him. It didn’t work. I went to his apartment and he was nearly passed out drinking some cheap wine.

I then realized he was beyond anything I could do for him.

He was unable to pay the rent and him walking around drunk caused him to get evicted.

I spent a few years seeing him every once in awhile walking around the city either hungover or drunk.

You can’t help some people. I mean you can’t undrink for them. He died five years ago and his family gave him a decent funeral. Nothing in his life was more admirable than his taking the leave of it.
