I have major issues with noise. This started when I lived in my former apt with my ex girlfriend where we had to be quiet constantly to not bother other tenants.was strange because it wasn’t weird old people that could actually hear, and we aren’t loud people. We had a female bossy Hitler type living downstairs. She ruined it for everyone living there.

Long story short, the place and people sucked. Ever since then even in my new apartment, I rarely make noise. It’s come over from that hellhole years ago, as when it started. This place is normal but I am not. I also have super hearing. I hear everything whether I want to or not. It’s usually the latter. Some call it a gift or superpower. Good lord it is not as it often feels more like a curse.

One would think I’d want more noise to block out every conversation that I hear which is everywhere. I’m not schizophrenic, I just have sensitive hearing. When I make a noise or have the tv somewhat loud, I become nervous. So despite only being mid 40s, it’s subtitle time yet again..

This has never quite happened as it does now and has gotten worse the past four years. Living alone is bad enough at times but when you’re allowed to make noise, why not let it go? Problem is I can’t. Just a quirk I’ve picked up and it’s become something else entirely.

It’s not mental illness but apparently is more common than people realize albeit a bit different on my end than most avoiding noise outside which I could care less about. It’s merely inside and on my own that bothers me. Utter hell.
