I’ve been told throughout my childhood that I was a failure, gotten into several relationships with mentally or emotionally abusive people, and tried to hurt myself so many times. I’ve eventually given up on finding happiness, and I just sorta exist every day now. I’ve told myself my whole life that I wasn’t worth loving, and genuinely felt it.
My best friend of years tonight told me differently. Told me I was perfect just the way I was. We shared an emotional moment together. I’ve had feelings for them for years but never fully went into it with them. Was scared that maybe the small signs I thought I saw from them was just me projecting and they didn’t actually like me like that. Turns out…they love me back. Shared a kiss with fireworks in the background. Held hands as we looked up to the stars.
I think…I’m going to be okay. For once I can think to myself that I’m okay, that someone likes me for who I am, and I’m not a failure. That…maybe…I can make someone else as happy as they make me. I think maybe I can fully start liking myself, to be honest. They’ve given me so much hope through the years, maybe I really can start moving forward.
Thank you for making me feel like I can do this thing called life. Thank you for never giving up on me, and thank you for caring about me.
