HI 13yo Eighth grader whose mom is cheating:…………………………………………………………………………………. I wish I felt confident that I have “the RIGHT advice” just for you……………………. but even if I did feel that way, it would still need YOU to recognize as much………………… which is an unlikely combination………………………………………………. What I WILL say is that in 8th grade (by the way, I loved the movie “Eighth Grade”)… you can’t recognize that such a small amount of “significant life” has gone by, that is it probably MOST IMPORTANT that you refrain from doing anything that will derail your own life up ahead……………….. Indeed your mom MIGHT be derailing HER own life… but for now, YOU really need both of your parents, and it is too early to guess at which parent will be your major support over the next… 10 or 15 years……………. I understand that they are struggling, AND THAT there is nothing that YOU can do which would bring them back together in harmony…. but I don’t think YOU want to burn bridges with your mom OR your dad right now… considering the path toward YOUR OWN BEST EVOLUTION from here forward…………………………………………………… when you’re in 8th grade, there are cute boys, and pretty girls…………… and it isn’t until years later that you look back at 8th grade and realize that most of the girls still had “waist-to-hip ratios” of about 1.00 … and that they are nowhere near to the eventual ratios that might get near to .70 … which will have them “noticed” by adults later on. ………………………………………………………………………………………. You don’t have to solve the world (or even decide your future) when you’re in eighth grade, so the best course of action is to preserve ALL of the possibilities for your OWN FUTURE for as long as you can, before needing to make a CHOICE among them. (don’t do anything drastic NOW)
