I’m going to the beach with some friends on Friday,and I’m going to have to wear a tampon. But I’ve never worn a tampon before,and it makes me nervous. This is embarrassing as hell,but I’m worried that I might put it in the wrong part of my you-know-what………..

Don’t worry…there’s no wrong way it can go in, unless its just at an uncomfortable angle. You only have two holes down there… your vagina and your butt. All tampons come with detailed instructions in the box as well, so you won’t be trying to figure it out without help. Try inserting a tampon the day before you have to leave and wear one for a while to get used to it. Go for the smallest size.
I personally hate wearing tampons and always use pads. If I were in a beach setting I Would just wear shorts and stay out of the water.

Oh man, I was so freaking nervous about using tampons that I didn’t use them until I became an adult. The idea that I’d do something wrong just kept shrieking in my head, which made my vagina pucker up and made insertion fairly difficult.
The best thing you can do for yourself is to just relax. Freaking out makes insertion more difficult. I also suggest that you look into getting some lube, as this made things a little easier for me when I first tried inserting tampons. Lube isn’t just for sex after all! I also highly recommend that you go for one with a plastic applicator like Tampax Pearl, as they’re far easier to insert. Poster 1 is also correct in that you should try to do this the day before and use the smallest size. That way you can judge what type of size you need for your flow. While you’re trying the tampons out, wear a pad to help be careful of leakage- I learned that the hard way because I put in one that was too small for my flow and leaked.
And whatever you do, don’t worry. We’ve all been there and even if you have some difficulty inserting your first tampon, know that we’ve all had that moment as well. Even if you find tampons aren’t your thing, it’s still well worth it to at least try it so you know you can use them in the event of a beach day or emergency situation.
You wont put it in wrong I promise. There are instructions that come in the box. Just make sure you tuck the string up in your butt or it might come out of the bottoms of your suit, goodluck
