I am a 30-year-old man, and I still blame my parents for not doing anything about my weight when I was younger. I graduated high school at almost 400 pounds. Starting in about third grade, I began realizing I was fatter than everyone else, and I had b****, so I started slouching to help hide them. By high school everyone was calling me “hunchback”. I’ve been fighting since my early 20s to lose the weight. Got it down to 250 at one point, but now it’s back up to 350. And my back is still crooked. But now, it’s really starting to catch up with me. I get exhausted doing even the basic things now. And the doctors have suggested putting a rod in my spine to straighten it.

I know it’s my fault. I know I am just using them as an excuse. But still. If you are a parent, and you know you kid has a weight problem, f****** help them! Don’t just let it go. If they had cancer, would you ignore it? Then why do you ignore obesity, which is equally as deadly a disease.

I did manage to find a woman willing to marry me – shockingly. We have beautiful children too. And now, as they get older, I am on the lookout for health problems. I am not going to make the same mistake my parents made.
