When I was a kid, I was beaten by my mother simply because I was overweight and did not exercise fast enough for her liking. I was terrified, and thought it was my fault. I had to wear jeans to school to hide the bruises on my legs. When I went on a swimming trip with my friends, my mom badgered me after I got back on whether or not anyone had asked about the bruises and what I had said on the matter. This happened several times through middle school.
It still makes me wonder if it was really my fault for not pleasing her.
