Times like this, when the weather begins to change, and I’m alone for a few minutes, and things are quiet… When I have nothing but my own thoughts… They always return to you. Twenty years ago, when you were out of my league, but I was convinced that some day I would be good enough for you… I moved across the country and made a nice little life for myself, but always thinking about you, as you were, back in high school.

I see your pictures online now. You and your family – so happy. I am happy with my family as well. My wife looked a lot like you did back then. I love her. I love my children.

But there is still and always will be this empty spot in my heart. I know we were supposed to be together. We were supposed to have beautiful children and a beautiful life.

I’m told that, when I die, all of my questions will have answers. The first one I will ask is: Can I go back to those days when I was with Anne? When we shared classes, and I’d give her rides home from school? Can I go back and live it all over again?
