My relationship with my long distance girlfriend (UK-USA) has hit a rough patch since my girlfriend started college a couple of weeks ago. She’s never really had many guy friends but she’s started talking to a guy she became close to a few months ago who she promised she wouldn’t talk to again because he started asking her to do things she didn’t want to do and now she is getting a little too comfortable with the new guys she’s met since she arrived at college.

She’s told me consistently that I’m her priority after her college work but even last night we made plans to FaceTime after she finished studying but while she was having dinner with her new friends she quickly threw me to a side and ended up going to watch a movie in her friends room until late at night. Anyone who’s had a relationship that spans time zones will know how awful it is to stay up so late at night/early in the morning every night, but you’ll also know that you do it because you want to talk to him/her.

So last night I ended up staying up until 2-3am only for her to text me telling me that she wasn’t studying and that she’d been at this guy’s room all night and that we couldn’t FaceTime as we planned because she was going to stay there longer. So I go to bed a little upset and angry and today we spoke for half an hour or so on FaceTime and she has it stuck in her head that she didn’t do anything wrong and that she’s got nothing to apologise to me for.

It’s been like this now for a couple of weeks but to me it’s seemed to get worse and worse. I feel like I’m losing her and she doesn’t even see that what she’s doing is hurting me so badly. I’ve always thought I’ve had a stable relationship with her (having travelled to see her twice so far) but ever since she left for college my levels of trust in her have fallen to an all time low. I’m someone who has difficulty trusting people because of my childhood, so I certainly don’t trust my family to talk to about this, and I have few friends apart from my girlfriend, so I guess to get it off my chest on here makes me feel a little better – thank you at least for taking time out of your day to read my problems.
