I had a great job opportunity lined up this summer. I quit my previous job, went through training, and spent one full day before I quit with a day’s notice. My anxiety about the job went through the roof on the first day, and as a knee jerk reaction, I quit. Now I have been unemployed since July and have been forced to rely on my girlfriend. I have lied to every friend I have about my work situation. Truth is, none of the jobs I’ve been applying for since have worked out in my favor. The ones I have been very interested in chose not to interview me, and others have been low level, low paying retail jobs. I feel like I will never advance anymore. I have lost all confidence in myself and am on the brink of a mental breakdown, all because I left my anxiety get the better of me.
This has been the worst few months of my life, and I would give anything to go back and prevent myself from quitting my old job and trying to get a new one. I can’t be hired back because of internal company problems, nor have I had any real luck in finding something I can be proud of. All of my friends have excellent jobs and had no prior work experience. Now I can’t even stand to be around them because I know that I am an unemployed, worthless, penniless fool who is wasting his time on a useless college degree and who can’t even find a decent job.
Moving away is not an option, but if it were, I’d drop everything and leave this behind. I would never come back here. I would never miss it, either.
