True story: I live in a very nice neighborhood in a major city. They recently opened a City Clerk’s office on the edge of the neighborhood. To nearest subway stop is on the other side of our neighborhood, so the end result is a lot more foot traffic down our sidewalks and people go from one to the other.
Almost immediately, we saw an increase in litter and even a little vandalism. We thought, “ok, I guess this was bound to happen.” Just out of curiosity, I got one of those home security cameras that records 12 hours of video and set it up so it could see the sidewalk. I recorded for two weeks.
The neighborhood is all white, but most of the people walking around now are not. There were all kinds of people, as you would expect in a major city. But the only people who littered were the blacks. I am not exaggerating. Every single piece of litter that I could see on video for those two weeks were thrown down by a black person.
I wonder if this is something they do everywhere, or did they just want to make a statement about our nice, white neighborhood.
