I was really impressed with an episode of Grand designs where they had a group of people who was like semi-commune type and the lifestyle and houses I JUST THOUGHT IS WAS A GOOD MODEL THAT COULD BE CARBON COPIED IN NEW TOWNS EVEN OR FUTURISTIC TOWNS THAT WANT TO BE MORE ENVIO SAVING.

McCloud starts work on Swindon eco homes

TV presenter Kevin McCloud is behind the Swindon eco home project
TV presenter and developer Kevin McCloud was in Swindon on Thursday, May 27 to officially kick-off work on the construction of 42 eco homes.
The site, just off Northern Avenue in the town, will be called the Triangle and aims to provide a strong sense of community as well as a sustainable lifestyle for the families living there.
Kevin, who is probably best known for presenting the Channel 4 programme Grand Designs said:
“It’s not about hippie communes, it’s about living a more enriched lifestyle that’s more enjoyable.”
The homes are being designed so that they will be affordable as well as environmentally friendly.
Newly-appointed housing and planning minister Grant Shapps was present at the ‘Turning of the Sod’ to mark the beginning of construction.

He said: “Twenty-seven per-cent of the CO2 in this country comes from homes.
“So unless we sort out what we’re going to do about the CO2 emitted by our houses, we can never meet our commitments as a nation to lowering our carbon levels significantly by the middle of the century.”
However, some locals still have reservations about the project.
Ellen Brookes who lives around the corner from the development said: “The site itself has been an eyesore for some time and it needed to be developed.
“It’s going to improve it dramatically, but I think they’re trying to cram a hell of a lot into the site and I don’t think its really big enough for what they’re trying to do there.”
Work on the 42 eco homes is expected to be completed by the middle of next year.
