My husband doesn’t like to pay any mind to panhandlers on the side of the road. This is all well and good most of the time, but today it really got to me. The sign he held read “Went to bed hungry last night. Woke up this morning and swallowed my pride.” I was so glad that I was wearing my sunglasses when I read that sign because it made me cry. It hit far too close to home, and there was nothing I could do about it with my husband in the car.
