That night, we had danced.
We laid in that bed whispering like the whole world could hear us.
And when I woke up in the morning, you weren’t there.
I searched all over for you, nothing.
I was angry.
I couldn’t –
I don’t understand.
You kept your distance,
we were strangers – we are.
And I know,
I have the audacity to still talk to you.
But now you can’t look me in the eye,
like you know that it’s clawing me from the inside.
The fact that you meant something,
and you just couldn’t accept it.
Yet I can’t help myself but to ask you,
“How are you?”
You say you’re fine,
and I hope one day you’d say “I miss you.”
And I want one more night, one more day with you.
We can put on masks,
or we can play pretend.
Just like you used to,
like we were falling in love again.
