My cousin did the unthinkable

My cousin (28f) told everyone her ex fiancé passed on

My cousin(let’s call her Claire) dated Josh(35m) for about 7 years. Their relationship was beautiful but I personally suspected some psychological abuse though I never confirmed.

Two weeks ago she told us all that Josh had passed on a week earlier but she didn’t want to talk about it.

Today i happened to see Josh on a mutual friend’s whatsap status with questionable time stamps and when I asked Claire she told me she didn’t want to have to deal with explaining to everyone what happened so she decided to just say he’s dead. I called her out and she said she would be untelling after she dealt with it.

Their wedding was supposed to be a week after mine and so we had been planning things together and all. I took her “loss” so seriously I drove to her house in the middle of the night. I was sad, I cried, I went through so many emotions and anxiety.

I don’t know why am posting but maybe to vent because I don’t want to be the one to tell people she lied and I don’t want to be hard on her. I just never thought that was an option
