A friend of mine came out to his mom and she kicked him out. A few days later, she tried to apologize and make amends with him.

He punched her in the face and broke her nose. Not only did he get arrested for that, but she disowned him for good; not for being gay, but for assaulting her. She said something like, “I was willing to let you come back home. I was willing to accept you. I was willing to support you. However, your hitting me blew all those chances. You can just stay out of the family and rot.”

She truly intended to love, accept, and support him, but his punching her was the dealbeaker. Her kicking him out was a knee-jerk reaction and she didn’t mean any of what she said when she first disowned him (she and I have spoken a few times since). The assault is why she completely disowned him.

He didn’t even apologize to her for hitting her, and until he hit her, I was firmly on his side.

They have not spoken since.

My confession? I was the one who called the police to report the assault.
