I feel like I am waaaay too emotionally invested in my best friend. It feels like I’m constantly worrying about her and her problems and just draining myself emotionally. Like, she’s a really fun, really great person and I adore her, but she has a lot of self-esteem issues and emotional baggage, not to mention family problems and the like. I love hanging out with her and being her friend, but it feels like she always has some sort of personal or family drama going on, and I let myself get invested in it and it’s just exhausting. I honestly don’t think she means to drag me into her business all the time, I just sort of insert myself into it because she’s my friend and I don’t want her to be upset or feel bad. Now, I’m not saying I want to become a cold, unfeeling husk of a person in regards to her, but I really don’t want to go on caring too much like this. I honestly don’t think it’s healthy for either of us. I have no idea what to do, and, like I said, I don’t wanna become cold or uncaring towards her, but I don’t know how to draw a line and stopping driving myself crazy. I want to learn how to care in appropriate amounts. I want to be able to help her feel better and overcome challenges, but not overdo it and burn myself out.
