I don’t understand what keeps Atheists going. I’m not saying this to be mean or sarcastic. But if there is no God, and your post-death will be like your pre-birth, which is nothingness, then why bother doing anything? Why not just kill yourself now, if the end result is the same no matter what. Because you might hurt people around you? They will all be dead and not exist one day too.
I’m not saying that my religion is based completely on my belief in an afterlife. I also believe in works of charity and bring a moral person while I am here on Earth. But since, in my belief system, I will always exist, I have a reason to continue. If your belief system ends in nothingness, why wait? Why waste the energy building a life that will be completely forgotten by everyone sooner or later? It’s like spending 75 years painting the most beautiful mural in a closed room where only you can see, only to have it all erased when you die, and no one even knew it existed.
I know I will get crap for this, but the way I see it, there is no way I can lose in being religious, unless I’ve picked the very wrong religion. If I die and there is no God, like the Atheists suggest, then I won’t exist so I won’t care. But if their is a God, then I will be happy I believed while I was alive. Plus I’ll be reunited with my loved ones who have gone before me.
Honestly, I think Atheism is immature. I am in my 30s, and all of the people I knew growing up who didn’t believe eventually came around and ditched their Atheist ways. I can see if you were young and didn’t really know the lose of a loved one or the pain of your body failing you how you wouldn’t put much thought into the afterlife. It’s easy to say “Atheist” and move on. That is, until you’re confronted with your own mortality.
