I’ve been dating my boyfriend for a little over a year. And I’ve been living with his for about two months. Lately, major flaws have been showing up; his inability to support himself, his inability to finance anything, etc etc etc.
For example, his car finally broke down permanently (he’s been piling money into it for ages to keep it going). But he has no credit to apply for a loan for a new car and he has no money saved to even buy a used car. Like, the crappy $1000 cars. I feel like a man who is almost 30 should have some sort of savings for these situations and not living paycheck to paycheck. He never saves, he blows most of his cash on cigarettes and energy drinks and soda, and now he’s asking if I can loan him money for a car.
If I loan him money, I know I’ll never see a penny of it. It’s one thing to give your boyfriend $50 for gas or buy him dinner. But I don’t think we’re at the point in our relationship where I can loan him a couple thousand dollars.
I’m just noticing his inability to prioritize. He never looks to the future. And if he doesn’t look to the future, how can I expect to have one with him?
I’m not trying to talk myself into breaking up with him. I love him, with all my heart. But when does the point come when love isn’t enough?
