My mum made me fully understood what was love. Before that, I always complained about the different treatment received between me and my sister. I felt that my parent’s didn’t love me enough. That night, I was extremely stressed and irritated the problem. I threw tantrums at home, not mentioning I am ill-tempered. I stomped my feet, cried as loud as I could, start damaging things with a pair of scissors, I created much disturbance. At first I was hurling vulgarities at my sister as an emotional rant. Things worsen when my parents did not try to sought the anger in me peacefully. I felt mistreated, therefore I started damaging things at home, hoping to rant and draw attention from my parents same time. They did, however the attention was negative. They didn’t pity me for the circumstances I faced, which I thought I was. Until I came out from my parent’s room with a penknife, threatening to kill myself because I couldn’t stand them scolding at me for creating such fuss. It was midnight, my mom who was ironing clothes stopped her work and came to counsel me. For that moment I really wanted to die, but I did not have the guts to. That was the first time in my life I ever subjected to self-harm. In past, I would laugh at people who do it because I thought it was stupid and attention-seeking. Now, I truthfully respect them for their bravery. My mum was born in the 3rd child among her 7 siblings. My mum quit schooling when she was 10, to help out her parents in provision shop. Later, she worked as a tailor in a factory with her younger sister at minimum wage. And eventually met my father (somewhere, not the sewing factory). My mum’s younger years were really bitter.. and I am ashamed for causing so much trouble for her. Even though she works in a salon now, with a better pay. But she didn’t had a good life when she just received her certificate in hairdressing, sadly she didn’t get much recognition from her boss at previous salons where she worked in. She must have put up too much. She told me that she didn’t hate the rest of her siblings in such a big family. Grandparents probably gave her less attention. I realized I am a spoilt brat, an ungrateful one. I stopped crying because I could’t find another excuse for self-pitying. I went to bed, leaving my mum still ironing clothes at Midnight, after such a long day of work. She works from 10-10, no kidding. She’s definitely the most hardworking women I have came cross to. Mum, I am sincerely sorry that I bought you so much trouble since my arrival to this world. I will never forget that day. 🙁
