A few years ago I broke up with my girlfriend because, in my own words at the time, I was afraid of turning into one of those douchebags that treat women like s** objects. It was a good, healthy relationship, the only good one I’d had in a long time, and I still beat myself up over giving it up out of fear of what might happen. And to make matters worse, I specifically said that we shouldn’t even try getting back together because I “didn’t want us to become one of those on-and-off couples.” We kept our friendship, but I can’t be in a relationship with anyone else because I still love her, and I can’t be in a relationship with her because she’s moved on.
