I went out clubbing for the first time when I was fourteen, and that was in the mid nineties. I met a really attractive guy, like three years older than me. Back then we didn’t even think about having s**, it was all about making out.

We saw each other once after that, when I was eighteen and working at a local bar. He sat at the bar with his friend, and just stared at me. That was his way of getting my attention, but I was dating the bouncer at the time, so I just ignored him.

I moved cities, and met a girl at a place we both worked at and somehow we got to talking about where I finished high school and she mentioned his name. She told me he was studying at a local college.

Years later, he and I connected on Facebook, simply because I thought about him every once in a while, and we texted back and forth for a few years, but we never connected in person again. Then we lost touch.

We have a reunion coming up next year, and I haven’t been to the town I finished high school in for probably twenty two years. We didn’t move in the same circles or go to the same school, but it’s a smallish town, so people know each other.

Someone told me he’s a successful lawyer now. Not that it matters to me, because I’m successful in my own right, but I wondered what he’s up to.

I don’t know why I can’t stop thinking about him. He’s not married, but he’s in a relationship. I’m not looking for one, but I still can’t get him off of my mind. Obviously I’ve grown a lot as a person and know not to obsess about s***, but I’ve got no idea why he’s suddenly the main character in my Charlie Kaufman-like mind.

I don’t particularly want to do anything about it, but just needed to get this off my chest.
