I made up a lie about me being half Jewish on my first day of college and I have maintained the lie for the last 15 years since. I only did it to sound ‘interesting’ to my new roommate, and now I can’t stop telling the lie. Even to my wife. My friends. Mu band mates. I have fantasized about convincing someone in my family that we hAve Jewish ancestry just to lend credence to my own false reality. I just told the lie again at work today to a customer who said I was doing a good job decorating a Christmas tree. I hate myself.
