I can’t believe how much difference a year can make.
Last year, I lost a close friend in a motorbike accident, he was only 24. It absolutely destroyed me, and even now I still find it hard to accept the loss.
In addition to that, my boyfriend cheated on me and was drinking heavily. I was stuck in a job I hated and most of the time I just wanted to die. I contemplated suicide many times, and once I almost attempted it. I was in a bad way.
I don’t know where the turning point for me was, but things are a lot better now. I moved into my own house, started exercising more and because of that I feel happier and more confident.
I’m still with my boyfriend and we’re trying to work through things, but that’s a work in progress. I’m focusing on me and regaining my identity and independence. I want to be a strong person who knows exactly what they want and what they deserve and I’m becoming that person now.
Whether my idiot boyfriend wants to catch up and quit destroying his life well, that’s up to him.
Today was probably the highlight of the past year though, and the reason I decided to write this today. One of my uni teachers who I’d kept in contact with asked me to help him out today, he offered to pay me double time to come into the studio and supervise the sound production students (I’m a qualified sound engineer). Unfortunately I wasn’t available but I called him and he said that it’d be great to have me around to take on that role as an actual employee. Naturally I jumped at the opportunity, that course has the best reputation in this city.
So yeah, pretty stoked at that.
