You Don’t Understand how I feel. Today I told two people that I identify as asexual. Both were online. Both were anonymous. I have never told anyone before, because I’m too worried about what they will think.
Person one was an old friend from school I haven’t seen in a few years. I told her anonymously through her blog, because she identifies as bisexual so I thought she might be able to offer some advice. She was very nice about it, and I felt a bit better.
Person two was a stranger on an anonymous chat site that’s meant to be a place to vent. A bit like this, I suppose, but more one-on-one. They repeatedly told me I’m not asexual, I’m just a believer of abstinence and need to find ‘the one’.
Last I checked, that involves voluntarily refraining from something that’s meant to be pleasurable to you. Well it’s not pleasurable to me. And no ‘one’ is going to change that. I’ve HAD s** plenty of times, it just doesn’t DO anything for me.
All that that chat has done is confirm in my mind that I’m not ready to share this with my friends and family, because there is going to be someone who doesn’t understand, and isn’t willing to listen.
Some of you will probably feel the same.
