AITA — TLDR at the bottom.
My best friend is, by all accounts, a very pretty young woman. She is also incredibly intelligent and sweet, but very naive (she seems to think everyone lives the same luxury lifestyle she does, but that’s a whole other situation). I’ve known her for many years now, and while she likes to comment on my non-existent love life (which I am quite ok with to be frank) and what I should do to fix it, she has had, and still has many many men chasing after her, but that’s beside the point.
She is currently dating this guy, and they’ve been together for almost a year (I’m still not actually clear on how they met, maybe because I zone out when she gushes about him). Typical guy, neither good nor bad, just…kind of there. I don’t know anything much him, but I do know he desperately chased after her, even asking for my help. I have met him in person twice and both times, he has (1) avoided speaking to me, (2) refused to look me in the eyes, (3) half-assedly answered my questions — note that none of my questions have ever been personal, but more casual small talk stuff along the lines of “how are your studies going?”. Again, he’s not a terrible person (I don’t think), but I still have my reservations about him.
A few months ago, he and I were invited to dinner at her place. Her parents are very lovely people and easy to talk to (I’ve never once felt intimidated by them, even when I first met them years ago), yet not once during that evening did he look them in the eyes, or answer them properly when they addressed him. He was not overtly rude and I did want to pen this in as “first time meeting the parents, he must be nervous” BUT he has met her parents a few times before, so I didn’t know what to make of it other than his behaviour towards them was mildly disrespectful at most (?)
Anyway, here it is : My best friend’s boyfriend gives me weird vibes. AITA for thinking she should dump him?
