I almost died in a car accident 4 years ago. I had been drinking heavily, and got called into work. It had recently rained and my tires were bald. I actually had the replacement tires in my backseat and was going to get them put on that weekend. But going 50mph around an almost 90 degree curve rendered having them useless. I started to slide and I over corrected and flipped my car. I still remember it like it was yesterday. Everything started to go in slow motion. Which I used to think was b******* when people said that. But it’s real. My life flashed before my eyes and then everything went black. Next thing I knew I was hanging upside down in my car with someone desperately trying to get my attention by repeatedly knocking on my door and shouting are you ok. Being that I was dazed and absolutely concussed I just sorta waved at her. She tried to get my doors open to help me out, but they wouldn’t budge. So she kept talking to me to make sure I was good to remove my seat belt and maybe attempt to get out myself. After regaining some sort of brain functionality, I unbuckled my seatbelt fell to the roof of my car with shattered glass everywhere and tried to open the doors from the inside. They where not budging. I had to have her hold the handle up while I kicked the door out in order to escape my would be metal coffin. As soon as I got she hugged me for what seemed like an eternity. Just praising god that I was ok. Which I’m not a religious person, but she was my guardian angel. Because soon after I got out, my car caught fire. Who knows, if she hadn’t been there causing a ruckus I might have still been in that car when it caught fire. And not a day goes by that I don’t think about that. While this incident has not made me give up the booze completely, it has taught me a valuable lesson, and I’ll never drink and drive ever again. And I never forget to put my seatbelt on either. I was never really bad about it before, but now it’s the first thing I do when I get into a vehicle. And I urge everyone I drive with to do the same. Because I’m absolutely 100% certain that if I hadn’t been wearing mine that day, that lady would have never had the chance to save my life because I would have already been dead.
