A man I knew as a friend in high school contacted me online two years ago.
We innocently chatted back and forth over the years.
He confessed to me that he had a crush on me back then, and even in middle school, but that he didn’t say anything because of loyalty to his (our) friends.
After some untamed flirting we recently met up when I was back in town.
I promised that I would keep things clean when we met up so as to avoid any awkwardness.
I couldn’t help myself.
I’ve had a thing for him for years.
We made love. It was amazing! I literally haven’t felt that way with anybody else.
After that night his communication with me shut down.
I called him out on it and asked him a “stinging” question: was his sole intention just to sleep with me?
He admitted that the question stung, but denied that was the reason we ended up together.
I continued to send him text messages as if things were ok.
He told me to stop, so I have.
I’m brokenhearted.
I’ve gone though the stages of grief:
1. Denial and Isolation
2. Anger
3. Bargaining
4. Depression
5. Acceptance
We have a high school reunion next year.
I hope he can communicate with me as a friend at this event.
I did not want to be hurt by him, ,or to hurt him.
I truly believe everything happens for a reason.
I’m sure I’ll discover the lessons I am supposed to learn from this experience over time.
My heart is truly sad that things turned out the way they did.
I will never admit out loud to him that I fell in love with him.
But I know that I truly did.
