Thing is: I’m not sure that even $1 million alone would massively change my life: I mean, I guess it “could” but if I just paid off my house $350k, my student loans $150k, my credit card and similar debt $25k, my car $25k, That right there takes away Half – assuming I had to pay taxes – well, there goes the other half!
If I didn’t have to pay taxes (or if they were already paid) I guess I could nest egg that other $500k – but with the stock market beingnso unpredictable that’s just uncertain!
Maybe in theory I’d pay off all my debts, then next egg maybe $400k – and then take a year off work and take an around the world trip with the other $100k!
Thing is: I’d still have to come back to work afterwards! I couldn’t really live off the
$1M forever! I suppose I could take a lower paying and easier job then –
But think about it: baseline Home utilities power, ($300) water ($150), gas ($100), internet and cable ($150), phones ($200) – that runs damn near $1000 a month
Car insurance for two cars is $600 a month
Even with no car note gasoline for two cars is $700 a month
Even if I never ate out for dinner groceries and food for family is $1000 a month minimum
Plus even with no house note you still have to pay taxes and home insurance – that’s another $300 a month right there
Heath insurance for family is $1500 a month if you have to buy on free market !!!
Tuition for my daughters school is $1000 a month
That’s $6100 a month !!! Just to live!
Even with no house note and no car notes and no student loan debt and no credit car debt!!!

How the hell did my college girlfriend and I live on a $1500 a month Budget back in 2004? Jesus when I think back about it, that’s fucking crazy!
When I got more student loans and funding for my 6th and final year of grad school when I was 29 during her sophomore year of college when she was just turning 19 – we upped our monthly budget to $1900 a month and we felt rich!
Jesus I’m old.

How the fuck does a family live if only one parent has a job and it’s minimum wage?
Ok put aside that impossible to answer question –
And realize that even if I minimized my $6500 a month in bills described above:
– say I Super cur back on groceries to cut $200 from that, drive less to save $100 in gasoline, cut down cable internets to cut another $200 a month shopped really hard on all the different insurances to get lower rates and maybe save another $400 – that’s still only saving $900.
Cut out private school tuition – Fine that’s another $1000….
So that’s what: $4200! A month minimum after taxes just tomlive middle class in America ?
There is nothing really left to cut after that!
Not if I want to have health insurance for my family in case someone gets sick!
