I need some help/advice. I’m 17 and transgender. I want to see a gender therapist so I can start my journey of transitioning. But, my relationship with my parents is not good. My dad is emotionally abusive and an overall a******, and my mom is an enabler for him. She’s also very lazy and doesn’t like taking me anywhere. I want to ask her to get me an appointment but she always acts like making appointments for me is such a hard task. I would make an appointment myself, but I’m still a minor and I don’t have my own car or anyone else who could take me. What should I do?

  • What I did was get a job, wait until I’m 18, move out with a couple friends as roommates, and then work on it myself. If your parents are going to act like they don’t want you, then you need to be self-sufficient.
It’s not going to be easy, but you have to look out for yourself first and foremost in this kind of situation. No matter what, even if you did go to a gender therapist right now, it takes time to get these things underway… So it’s better to do it when you’re in a more comfortable place personally.
