I have no problem with transgender people. I would offer my assistance to a trans individual if they felt uncomfortable in public, and would even stick up for them if need be. I believe anyone should be able to express whatever gender they are. However, I have a question that has gone unanswered for years. While being transgender is not a mental illness, the dysphoria felt by being in the wrong body is. So, in other forms of mental illness the goal is to change the chemicals in the brain. Depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and so on all have treatments that focus on brain chemistry. So, when it comes to gender dysphoria why is it that the go to is always surgery? Why not fix the brain chemicals to not have the sense of dysphoria?
