My best friend went home for the holidays. Last night, she had s** with our ex-boyfriend, who is dating this girl whom I’ve gotten very close to lately. The two spent the night talking about how both of their moms are dead and she justified it because apparently he was already going to dump the girl and she “really f****** likes” him, even though she talks s*** with me about him all the time. I called him and told him I knew everything, and then told the girl what happened. Then my best friend called me and told me to f*** off because I had told her I’d keep it a secret. She posted on Facebook about the ripple effect I had caused and we fought about how he lost a few friends as a result, about how she believes she is better than all the other girls he’s dated, including myself and the girl… I called her a w**** and she called me a horrible friend and I blocked her. I have this sick feeling in my stomach. I don’t think we will come back from this fight. But… I can’t be so sad… Which is worse? Betraying your best friend’s secret or freeing a poor younger girl from a toxic relationship?
