I meant for better or for worse, till death do us part. She didn’t. Each time the going got rough, I was ready to change and make ‘us’ work. Each time she said “I think if a person is unhappy, they have a right to leave.” Each time I was the one who made the change but she never followed through on any of her promises. Last time, she said, “I’m taking divorce out of my vocabulary”, but she clearly wasn’t above re-learning it. I’m done living in fear of her leaving me. Now I’m divorcing her so I can go and find a partner that will make a commitment and mean it like I do.
We’re separated now and I’m still filing next week, but….
Confession: Even though I know (and now accept) that it can’t work like I want it to, I still miss her. I miss her laugh, her secret self, comforting her, her love (when I had it). I can’t have the future I want with her and it hurts more than any pain I’ve had in life so far (28years). Que lyrics for Daft Punk’s “Something about us”.
