“finding someone” is overrated. i moved into a new place last week. the neighbour is a japanese lady who liked to talk about the weather and corona. she said she has a group of 5 friends, including her, all in their 40s-50s, and everyone except her are divorced. she told me she had thought about divorcing her husband many times because she’s super tired of dealing with a bossy and difficult a******. people think “find someone” and it’s a “happily ever after” when the truth is you have to discuss every little thing and be honest about every little thing and respect the person. you need to put your weight into maintaining house. i have someone i love and it’s not easy because it’s too natural to take the other person’s love and patience for granted. i miss being single. when the fireworks fizzle down, it’s nothing but just chores, errands, annoyance and decades of hard work. after that it’s just handling the possibility of the other person dying before me.
