To: I had to put down my dog of five years today due to old age and medical issues
Me: Having pet dogs comes with the realization that their lives are considerably shorter than ours and at some point in time, in the future, we will have to have them put down.
The truth of the matter is, would you want to live for another year of torment, unable to do anything to end your life, or would you hope your owner cared and loved you enough, to put you out of your mysery.
I hate having to put my dogs down – 2 I had since puppies I Had to arrange to have put down – Sea, a white male Labrador, got doggy cancer, I have no idea how and it went through him really quickly and in the end he could not walk – I could have prolonged his life, but I had him put down instead – it was painless for him and heart breaking for me.
My other dog, Seal’s sister was a Retriever and I occasionally feed my dogs raw bones and on this occasion a bone got stuck in her somewhere and she eventually died from it – she was too old to try and save and until she passed, I thought she was going to be OK.
I have her death on my conscious and I hope she will forgive me for not knowing any better, but how could I?
My female companion came here with a St Bernard, Indy – these dogs don’t usually live for more than 6 years, but here Indy made just 13 years old before her legs gave way and she could not walk anymore and I had to arrange for our vet to put her down too – she did not wa
