I’ve been at my current job for over 2.5 years. I knew I didn’t want to do this type of work forever and hadn’t planned to stay as long as I have stayed. My position is a temporary job, so I’m already at the bottom of the totem pole. The type of work could dry up anyway. I am still frustrated. Even though it’s considered a temp job, new projects have come up as my other projects ended. I kept being told that new work was supposed to be coming into my area, repeatedly. So, I made the mistake of not going as hard as I could in finding additional work. I have been applying to other jobs, but not h********.

I’m now at a point in my life where I’m tired of having to do temp/seasonal jobs. I had stayed at this particular job because it had been the most stable of all the temp jobs I had taken. The company, nationwide, seems to be at a stand still for work. I realize it s**** for all of us, including those that are considered permanent. It still s**** for those of us that get paid an hourly wage. It’s frustrating that some people lead us technicians along, letting us think that more work would come our way.

Even though the project I have ends early next year, I’m hoping to have a new job before the end of this year. The work I’ve done hasn’t been bad. I can’t complain. Not many jobs allow drive time to be counted as apart of your day. Some of us get rent reimbursement, up to a certain amount (as we are not residents of the state; for me, it doesn’t make sense to become a resident).

I still need a new job where I get a steadier pay check, benefits, etc. In this current job, the spring and fall has always been the busiest times of year. In the past, I’ve worked 40+ hrs per week. Sometimes, as much as 60 to 65 hours per week. I didn’t mind, because it was only for a total of 4 to 5 months out of the year. I counted in that overtime pay for the times when things were slow and I hovered around 30 to 35 hrs per week. Now, I’m lucky if I’m averaging 30 hours per week. It’s been like that since December. And for some of that time I didn’t go h******** job hunting because I was told more work should be coming to the area. Ugh! If only management would actually talk to the technicians, we could’ve told you not to hire more technicians. Now you have more people than you do work. I didn’t get to school to get a degree in a STEM field to be stuck working part-time and having to look for other part-time work…till I can find something better.

EMPLOYERS….talk to your employees, ask questions, and listen. Keep us in the loop. COMMUNICATE! Its not that hard. You can’t complain about people leaving when you didn’t talk to us regularly.
