An interesting piece of music gear I have had forever. This is late 2006. Dimarzio DP 219 D Activator Neck (Position) Pickup.

D Activator is a traditional magnet pickup, which is apparently shooting to mimic the tone of an Active Pickup. A pickup or set of pickups that requires a 9 Volt Battery. Like The EMG 85 and 89. Active pickups are a very different beast tonally. Feel too. I do not the the idea of needing batteries for your guitar either.

I had this in my Les Paul Studio at one time. It didn’t work for me in that particular guitar, but it’s also up against some stiff competition in the Gibson 490R and 498T. I’m now a believer that if you have a Gibson Guitar, leave the pickups alone. Whatever they may be. 490, 57 Classic, Bustbucker, whatever it may be, leave the Gibson alone and if you do change the pickups, keep them Gibson. That’s my opinion.

But I’m looking at this thing now and wondering if maybe it would be good in my Jackson Kelly? Is it better than the cheap stock High Output Jackson pickup? It doesn’t have the cool white/black Zebra covers but it might add a distinct difference in tone between the neck and bridge pickup, which I think are both the same identical pickup and they sound like it too. There is hardly a difference in tone between the two as is. It might make a huge difference in tone with this guitar and make the neck position fun to play.

It’s been sitting around because I never had a guitar it would be suited for. That JS32 guitar is really a prime candidate.
