I’m an openly queer person. I like all genders but I have a preference for women. My father and I like to bond through watching movies or TV shows. However, numerous times he has made homophobic comments whenever a gay relationship shows up, or a generally queer person is represented. Just yesterday, when he saw two guys kissing in this movie he said “Ew, they’re gay!”. He even said after that he supports the LGBTQ+ community and what he said is just a joke. He also made the comment saying “Why does he like a guy when he should like a girl”. To every single of these homophobic comments he would also make, he would later say “It’s just a joke”. I don’t know how I feel anymore. I’ve already accepted myself for being a queer person. But I’m starting to have mixed feelings. The country I live in is very religious. Majority of the population is Catholic or Christian. I’m lucky that my father is an atheist, but the fact he still makes those comments makes me upset. I think he only accepts me because I’m his daughter.
