Got the dilemma of my family past which includes family being involved with some things within the military fighting against one country. I mean it’s over now luckily but the problem is it is still a tense subject especially if your talking to veterans that were on a particular side, some have let it go and some haven’t.
Here is my problem. My friends family is from the country my family were fighting against and I have brought up topics about the fighting with out knowing his family background the. It makes it hard for me because I have to be so careful with what I say and they don’t know my family fought against their country and I just feel so awkward and paranoid when I speak. what makes it worse is when I understand the event and people ask for info bout it. I have to tell my parents to be careful with what they say since my mates ancestry is from that region of fighting and I know my dads still got anger towards it since they killed 2 of his mates, one pretty awfully. Don’t know what to do really incase I spill, any advice

  • Well don’t bring it up or maybe tell him/her the truth, step lightly though…

  • I’ve been through a surprisingly very similar scenario actually. I bit my tongue when talking with my friend in case she sided with her family since I’m even to this day not sure if she’s aware the disagreement took place x
