You shouldn’t have a cat since you can’t control yourself, you don’t understand cat behavior and now you have harmed the cat.

All you have done is taught the cat to fear you. Of course the floor is going to have litter on it, so put a mat down under the litter box. Have at least two litter boxes. That’s TWO litter boxes in different locations. Litter Maid corncob tends to track less than some. Clay litter is the worst.

You can also put a plastic sheet down under the mat which is under the box. The plastic sheet with a cloth backing is available at Joanne Fabrics. Litter tracking is NOT the cat’s fault. Hitting the cat accomplishes nothing.

Be appreciative that you have the friendship of a cat. Your floor can’t love you but your cat does.
