i am so far behind on writing my dissertation that i have completely lost faith in myself to finish it

  • Forget faith. Forget confidence. The task ahead of you isn’t about how you feel, it’s about putting in the work REGARDLESS of how you feel.

    Don’t look too far ahead or you’ll over-focus on the fear of the task’s size. Break down your remaining time and daily routine into something manageable. Budget enough time for good, adequate meals, daily exercise, and a full night’s sleep. Portion out the remaining time between your dissertation and whatever else you have to do daily. Give yourself several hours per day to work on it, but break it up into two or three timed sessions so you don’t get burnt out. Then just start following that plan.

    “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.” If you set reasonable goals, you’ll get there by putting one foot in front of the other until you reach the finish line. And that’s no matter how bad you feel.
