I am slightly sexist towards men. It’s a very recent development, and I know it’s wrong. I’m trying my best to not be that way, but a lot of men just make it really hard. I know I shouldn’t judge all men based on the actions of some (I refuse to say “few” because I have encountered more s*** men than good ones), and I do have a good handful of wonderful male friends out there, but DAMN! Having to listen to assholes scream about football while I’m trying to study, having to put up with being hit on, despite that it is obviously unwelcome (I’m a lesbian, and will happily announce it once a man starts hitting on me, but it doesn’t seem to do anything to stop ANY of them), on a DAILY basis, being harassed just for walking down a hallway or sidewalk, just minding my own business, and just having to politely nod and listen as they go on and on about whatever self-centered and/or rude thing they’re so often talking about just REALLY GETS UNDER MY SKIN! I end up judging men negatively before they’ve done anything truly wrong because of the actions of men at large.
Again, like I said earlier, I’m trying to stop this habit because I know it’s wrong, and unfair. It’s nowhere near the degree where I would base large decisions on it, and it has nothing to do with not being romantically attracted to them (I may be a lesbian, but I can spot a good looking guy when I see one). It has to do with dealing with complete asshats on a near daily basis who are all men and all act the same way. Yes, some girls are asshats too, I’ll be the first to admit that, but from what I’ve experienced, the male to female ratio of scummy awful jerk people weighs heavily on the side of the men.
That’s it. I just wanted to admit to myself in a somewhat public way that I’m a bit sexist so I can start improving that part of myself.
