Tonight while rabbit hunting, I mistakingly shot a fawn whitetail deer thinking it was a rabbit. I know you’re thinking “how can you do that?” All I could see was it’s eye and I could’ve sworn it was a rabbit. Once i shot I saw it jump out of the tall grass and noticed it was a small deer. It still had the spots. I’ve never felt so bad about something in my life. Like seriously, my heart feels in pieces. We had to leave the deer there because we would have gotten in tons of trouble if we would have been caught with a dead deer this time of year and on top of that a fawn. It’s just weird to think that why wold there even be anymore fawns with spots left this time of year? I’m pretty knowledgable in this subject and know that at this point all fawns should almost be independent. So maybe I did this stranded late fawn a favor by saving it from suffering and being eaten by coyotes. I don’t know, it just hurts me knowing I did that. I understand that accidents happen and I didn’t do it on purpose by no means.. I wish the poor thing knew how sorry I was. I’ll never forgive myself for this..
