And yeah popular culture has been on the decline since the 1990s, the 80s was the last era where you actually had to sing or play an instrument well enough to get famous. Musical virtuosity was mocked by the Grunge and Hip Hop movements, Punk Rock became boy band nonsense for 12 year old girls with bands like Green Day and Blink 182, Fred Durst and Kid Rock were legitimate celebrities, and its just snowballed ever since and gotten worse.
