The legit act of most but not all Polynesian parents calling their kids ‘liar’, ‘spoiled’, ‘cheeky’ or just anything really when their kids decide to open up about their personal problems is so normalised. You open up to your parents, they call you dramatic or a brat for saying such things. I’m sick of hearing “Stop being dramatic”, just because you grew up being confident and all that does not mean your child will be just like you. People are changing nowadays. They won’t be as social or interactive when they’re older perhaps. That’s just them. If you learn to be understanding or teach your kids to be honest then maybe you wouldn’t be saying “You have what you want, be happy.” or “Why would you make up stuff like this?” and so on. You wonder why us kids don’t open up to yous anymore? Because of THIS reason! We get called liars, dramatic, brats, moepi, ka’a, pepelo and so on. It just goes in a loop. “There’s no need to be dramatic.” This isn’t how you’re supposed to support your child.. “No need for tears.” Your child has every right in what way they open up to you, you’re ruining it by pushing them away or calling them liars. It’s just so-.
