in 2001, my family member was a victim/witness in a child molestation case. upon recent research, i found that the case has been taken on by an independent innocence project, and upon reading public record of the trial, i now fully believe that my (at the time) minor age family member was coerced into testimony. i already feel like a traitor doubting my family member, but the facts are undeniable, and i’m just waiting for some docuseries team to show up in my inbox or on my doorstep and force me into stating my thoughts one way or another…because this case would be a huge media sensation if the word got out. how do i talk to my family member before this blows up, so i can ask them their opinion almost 20 years later, and let them know where i stand? should i be the whistleblower? am i obligated to speak out for a falsely accused stranger, at the risk of alienating my loved ones? this is what is keeping me up at night, lately…
