Okay, for starters, i’m a junior in my tech theatre class, and because i’m the oldest, I was tasked with showing the kids around the theatre. Back stage, scene shop, fly system, prop shop, costuming closet, and my favorite spot in the school (as aspiring light manager): The Catwalk (capitalized cause i respect that place). As I was showing this kid Michael (he’s PEP, so he went by himself) the lights and machines on The Catwalk, he pointed to one disassembled machine on a folding chair and asked what it was.
I said it was a snow machine. We put soap in it, and use air to push it through a cloth filter. The tiny bubbles look like snow, and rain down on the audience during the winter band and chorus concerts. He then asked how expensive it was. I answered, “The machine itself is pretty pricy, but i’m sure the soap is cheap.”
When we went back down, he immediately whipped out his phone, and as I was talking to my friend Taylor, tapped me on the shoulder. He’d pulled up snow machines on the Amazon App, and was pointing to a machine that cost roughly $850 dollars. “This one?”
I never did tell him it was unrealistic to buy an $850 snow machine, and that he didn’t even have so much as a batten to prop it up on (to my knowledge). I just smiled awkwardly and said “Yup, that one.”
Poor guy’s mom- I wonder if she’ll bust her wallet for that machine or just turn him down on it.
